Understanding Craniosacral Infused Massage
Before BODY, massages were linear in my mind. I’d tell the therapist where I had tension or pain and they’d help me relax to feel better. Turns out, while incredible in and of itself, that is just scratching the surface. During my last massage at BODY, I was introduced to Craniosacral massage. This modality is new to me, and if it’s new to you too, this is worth a read to inspire your next treatment!
Craniosacral therapy, or cranial osteopathy uses light touch to work on the connective tissues, cerebral spinal fluid, cranium, sacrum, and spinal column. Craniosacral infused massage therapy helps clients reach their midline, to promote health and well being. This can help the body’s fight or flight response, easing our defense mechanisms to regulate the body’s balance.
The benefits are plenty, known to help those suffering from headaches and migraines, trauma recovery, disturbed sleep cycles and insomnia, TMJ, trauma recovery, mood disorders, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, constipation, IBS, sinus infections, and more. By alleviating restrictions and imbalances in the body, this work can provide relief with a shallow risk of side effects.
At BODY, Craniosacral is infused with traditional massage to create a blended 80 minute session towards your emotional and physical relief. During my session, I felt extreme relaxation and a surprising emotional release. It’s incredible to fathom how much our body holds on to, during this massage I felt an emotional response come into consciousness. The images were specific and related to a recent trauma. Listening to my mind and body, allowing whatever arised to pass through, helped me breathe through it to face it head-on during the session. I even heard light ambient noise that sounded like a hollow gong-like sound. I had to ask my therapist if that was him or part of the music that was playing, only for him to relay it was the sound of my body’s energy or electromagnetic field. The sound was both soothing and fascinating. It provided context and illuminated how real and vital this kind of work is.
It’s not every massage I feel the need to journal, but the release inspired me to download some of the messages I’d been given during the service. Afterward, I eased into the evening with a lot of hydration, as recommended by my therapist. Anyone with chronic pain, stress-related conditions, headaches or migraines, emotional imbalances, or musculoskeletal disorders can benefit from Craniosacral massage. Clients are fully clothed and comfortable, providing a cozy atmosphere to take in this unique service. If you identify with ever saying to your friends ‘I’m going through it’ or need to work through an imbalance hollistically, this is the service for you.
