Thinking MU – A Sustainable Fashion Pioneer
We are excited to bring in one of the most sustainable clothing brands to BODY, featuring women and mens clothing inspired by minimalist art. Thinking MU was one of the first slow fashion brands in Europe, and continues to set an example through their impact tracing and transparency.
Interesting fact!
Every one of Thinking MU’s garments come with a QR code, allowing us to access sustainability insights and impact from the garment. This information covers aspects such as waste footprint, carbon toxicity, origin, and the human touch behind its creation, furthering a transparent relationship with the community.
Thinking MU was founded in Barcelona by four friends, Pepe Barguñó, Miquel Castells, Alejandro Arenas and Carlos Cortadellas in 2008. The name “Thinking MU” came from their Jack Russel, Mu, and they chose organic clothing to express their love for good friends, siestas, and music. They entered the fashion world with a casual and fun approach, and they just wanted to make clothing with common sense. And for them, it was common sense to build environmental consciousness and social responsibility into everything they do!
The brand takes pride in utilizing organic, recycled, and Fairtrade textiles, including a planet-friendly hemp range. Additionally, it promotes a circular economy with a zero-waste trash initiative focused on post-consumer recycled materials.
So many brands talk the talk, but it’s hard to decipher if they actually walk the walk (hello greenwashing)! Thinking Mu combats this through transparency. They collaborate with BCOME to trace the environmental and social impact of their clothing, and then they share this info via a QR code on every garment. BCome is able to provide automated data sharing which helps Thinking MU communicate the journey and impact of each product they create. Thinking MU was one of the first brands to trust BCome to access their product life cycles in order to guarantee credibility and communicate effectively and honestly.
5 reasons we carry Thinking Mu:
They use hemp, which uses 95% less water than cotton, while also engaging in research and development to create future-proof fibers which demonstrates a forward approach to better sustainability.
Their Zero Waste project recycles clothing made from recycled materials and new sustainable fibers
With Fairtrade and GOTS certifications, the brand emphasizes its dedication to fair labor practices and organic materials.
By incorporating TENCEL™ and LENZING™ fibers from sustainably sourced wood, Thinking MU ensures biodegradability and compostability, aligning with their circular economy goals.
Thinking MU has received the two most important Fairtrade certifications, BSCI and SEDEX, which guarantee that there is no child labour, forced labour, discrimination, excessive working hours or unsafe and unsanitary working conditions.
Twelve years after founding, the Barcelona-based brand remains true to their roots in their commitment to questioning norms—in fashion, societal structures, or the very concept of 'sustainability.' By embracing the phrase 'Ready to think,' a clever twist on 'Ready to wear,' Thinking Mu disrupts the fast fashion pace, ensuring highly sustainable garments with an enduring stylish appeal.
