International Day of Yoga

While many might see yoga as an exercise class, it’s an ancient practice that can be traced back 5,000 years. On International Day of Yoga, we observe this Hindu philosophy and meditation practice with the ritual that has changed the lives of millions across the globe. It’s no doubt that yoga is an invigorating exercise, but its origin is much more than that. At BODY, we celebrate yoga with daily classes rooted in intention and community to ground and relax students.

Whether it’s Ashtanga, vinyasa, Mysore, or Kundalini — the BODY yoga program taps into yogi forms of movement meditation in their purest iterations. Unless it’s a Vinyasa with music class, you won't hear loud music pumping into our studio, but rather the sounds of ujjayi breath and dedication to flow through the practice. Each pose is an opportunity for reinvention, growth, and stability guided by the language of Sanskrit with postures that challenge the mind and body.

Some benefits that may be found in a yoga practice include stress relief, improved flexibility, improved mental health, improved strength, and posture. In addition to yoga classes, our gifted instructors like Courtney (Coco) Love, host events that use yoga as a tool to explore the body’s seven energy centers or chakras. On July 28, grow your practice with a guided chakra meditation, designed to awaken and balance the energy centers within you with Coco.

We also have a full day of classes for you to engage with including a free morning class that takes place 5 days a week and encourages you to awaken in our space with whatever postures and meditations call you in.

On World Yoga Day you can step into BODY for the following classes:

7 AM-8:30 AM Free Self Practice Yoga

10AM-11AM Ashtanga influenced vinyasa

12 PM-1 PM Embody Flow

4 PM-5 PM Kundalini Flow

The philosophy of yoga is that the mind, body, and spirit are all one at all times, with a yoga practice enabling practitioners to explore deeper versions of themselves. This year marks the 10th International Day of Yoga and the theme this year is ‘Yoga for self and society.’ The theme calls us to better ourselves to better those around us, creating a domino effect of positive change and upward growth. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or taking a class for the first time, step into it with the lens of self-improvement and meditation and the rest will follow.
