What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates provides a full-body workout for all fitness levels, ages, and abilities. Low-impact controlled movements harness the power of the Reformer machine to strengthen muscle groups, improve postural alignment, and enhance flexibility. Springs are added to customize resistance.

What are the Benefits?

Reformer Pilates maintains overall physical fitness, leading to greater strength, flexibility, and balance, which in turn improves posture, movement, and mental health. Reformer Pilates exercises can be adapted to provide either gentle rehabilitative strength training or a strenuous workout vigorous enough to challenge athletes.

Why Reformer over Mat?

While mat Pilates offers valuable low-intensity strength training, the reformer takes it a step further. It provides targeted, high-intensity training while maintaining crucial body alignment. The level of resistance can be tailored to your unique needs, making it suitable for everyone, including those with injuries.

What You Can Expect

In our small group classes, you'll enjoy personalized attention from a certified licensed instructor within a supportive wellness community. At $35 per class, it’s a great way to experience the transformational physical and mental benefits of Pilates Reformer.

Unlike most Pilates studios, we don’t require you to start with private sessions to participate (although private and semi-private sessions are available). Our Pilates “Foundations” class is a slower pace that provides an entry point to learn the fundamentals. The instructor will guide you through the use of the machine.

Some will want to stick with “Foundations”, while others will move to our faster-paced classes. These 45-minute sessions keep you in constant motion, burning fat while building strength. In addition to the Reformer, we integrate mat work, TRX® suspension trainers, and other props.

Class Formats

  • Pilates Foundations (45 minutes)

This class teaches the fundamental Pilates techniques and caters to students of all levels interested in form and movement. Uplevels and modifications are offered to challenge your abilities. This class will help improve posture and balance, develop a strong core, and engage the deeper layer of muscles. You will experience the benefits of a light resistance workout, including coordination, flexibility, and increased functional movement. This class focuses on mobility, alignment, and form and includes the Pilates classical and contemporary sequences.

  • Pilates Sculpt (45 minutes)

This class teaches the intermediate reformer exercises, plus their progressions. Pilates Sculpt will use hand weights, the magic circle, and the small ball, for a vigorous class format that will engage you mentally and physically, developing stability and strength. Participants must be comfortable planking, kneeling, and standing on the reformer series. It is recommended that students have reformer experience and no knee injuries, recent surgeries, or joint replacements to take this Sculpt class. You will feel lengthened and strengthened after class.

Getting Ready for Your First Class

These are small class sizes (just 6 Reformers to start), so it’s helpful to reserve your spot in advance at bodyofsantafe.com. If you can’t make it, please cancel 24 hours in advance. No shows are charged the full class rate due to our small class size.

For your safety, athletic grip socks are required and will be available for purchase. We also recommend that you bring a water bottle.

Prepare to be challenged and expect that it will take a few classes to find your groove!
